The Evergrowing: A Modern Bank Design Inspired by Chinese Bamboo

Bringing Together Sleek Design and Brand Identity

With the meaning of "ever-growing" in Chinese as the bank's major business statement, the Chinese bamboo tree became the leading concept of the entire design.

The Evergrowing bank, designed by Yan Yik Lun and Marco Choi of IMO Design, is a stunning example of modern architecture inspired by the growth and resilience of the Chinese bamboo tree. The five-storey high building features a sleek and slender design, accentuated by the brand's signature green color.

The design team at IMO Design aimed to create a facade that references the characteristics of bamboo growth. The use of aluminum alloy piling and the structure's slender lines mimic the elegance and strength of bamboo stalks. This unique approach not only showcases the brand's identity but also creates a visually striking building that stands out in the bustling city of Hong Kong.

One of the key features of The Evergrowing bank is its transparent customer service area. The bank hall, located on the first floor, is surrounded by full-height glazing, providing a sense of openness and transparency. This design choice reflects the bank's commitment to providing excellent customer service and fosters a welcoming environment for clients.

The design development of the facade presented several challenges for the design team. Balancing brand elements, three-dimensional visuals, and building regulations required meticulous attention to detail. With a limited projection from the existing building of only 350mm, the team relied on 3D models and on-site mockups to ensure the perfect result.

The Evergrowing bank covers a total floor area of 756.5 square meters, offering ample space for banking operations and customer interactions. The project, which began in March 2018, was completed in January 2019, showcasing the dedication and expertise of the design team.

The Evergrowing bank design by Yan Yik Lun and Marco Choi of IMO Design has been recognized for its excellence. It was awarded the Bronze A' Design Award in the Interior Space, Retail, and Exhibition Design category in 2021. This prestigious award celebrates designs that demonstrate creativity, resourcefulness, and a commitment to improving the quality of life.

With its innovative design inspired by the Chinese bamboo tree, The Evergrowing bank stands as a symbol of perseverance and growth. It not only provides a functional space for banking operations but also adds a touch of elegance and sophistication to the cityscape of Hong Kong.
